A blizzard warning for the Sarnia area had been lifted by Saturday morning but police were still urging the public to avoid traveling in the region.
A post on the OPP’s Western Region Twitter page Saturday morning said there have been collisions around the region and roads closed by zero visibility.
“Avoid any unnecessary travel until conditions improve,” police said.
Highway 402, which was closed Friday, remained closed early Saturday morning, according to 511on.caOntario’s travel information website.
Sarnia and the rest of Lambton County remained under a weather advisory for Saturday morning and into the evening, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.
“Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather,” the national weather office said. “Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.”
Municipal officials in Sarnia and Lambton County declared a significant weather event Friday.
The county said in a statement the declaration notifies the public that due to weather conditions “extreme caution is to be exercised when travelling” and that it may take longer than usual for plows to clear roads.
Bluewater Power wasn’t reporting any electricity outages on its website Saturday morning but there were Hydro One customers without power in Lambton Shores, as well as the Wanstead and Inwood areas, according to that utility’s website.
