Sarnia Special Olympian thanks Tim Hortons for campaign

Local Special Olympian Regan Knowles joined Exmouth Street Tim Hortons owner Sarah Best and crew members Emily Fletcher and Charlotte Leivo on Feb. 3 to thank them for their efforts in supporting Special Olympics.

The Sarnia store was one of several area Tim Hortons participating in the company’s national Special Olympic Donut fundraiser, Feb. 3-5.

All of the proceeds of the special offering – chocolate cake ring donuts with whipped topping and sprinkles – sold over the three days were donated directly to Special Olympics Canada, an organization that assists over 41,000 children, youth and adult athletes across the country reach their full potential and enrich their lives through sport.

Best said customers in her Sarnia and Petrolia stores always support the annual event.

“They were asking for these donuts before they came out and they’ll probably be asking for them after,” she said.

Knowles, who participates in basketball, bowling and track and field with Special Olympics Sarnia, said the athletes greatly appreciated both the funds raised for them as well as the generosity of their community.

“It means a lot to all of us, to see our community supporting us,” she said. And the financial support is important too.”
