Sarnia police host two budget information sessions

Online bidding opens Saturday for Sarnia police auction

The Sarnia Police Service Board will host two information sessions about its 2024 budget.

The first is Thursday, 6:30 pm, at Pat Stapleton Arena, 134 Brock St. S., and the second is Sept. 14, 6:30 pm, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 390 Christina St. N.

The board is developing its 2024 budget and the sessions are “part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability,” a police release said.

Sarnia budgeted $30.4 million for police services in 2023.

“Policing is a public service like no other,” Chief Derek Davis said in a social media post. “There are difficult challenges to overcome in order to meet the many diverse needs of our community.”

Public consultations also helped develop the board’s strategic plan, “which guides and prioritizes our budget process,” he said.
