Sarnia ends temporary ban on backyard fires

Sarnia’s temporary ban on backyard fires has ended.

The city said Saturday its ban on recreational fires had been lifted by Sarnia Fire Rescue Services following the ending of Environment Canada’s special air quality statement for the area.

The ban on recreational fires began July 27 smoke from forest fires in Ontario and Quebec impacted air quality in southwestern Ontario, and elsewhere.

“Fire Chief Bryan Van Gaver would like to thank all Sarnia residents for their assistance in reducing the impact of smoke on air quality,” the city said in a statement.
