Sarnia author releases a series of new poetry books

A local author has just released not one but three new books of poetry, writing she hopes will improve people’s state of mind in the midst unsettled times.
Sarnia’s Lisa Lachapelle’s three poetry books include: This is The Story of Kryptonite Rose, a 25-page ballad; Poems on Love, Poems II, a deliberation on the many types of love; and Of Light and Sounds Poem III, a collection of 50 wide-ranging poems.

Lachapelle, who released her first novel – Small Tales and Visits to Heaven – over 10 years ago, said she has always been an avid writer and artist, but recently found more time to pursue her passion.

“I’ve always enjoyed writing,” she said. “I never thought of it as an actual career. I’ve been a visual artist ever since I was a kid, but I did write stories. I used to be an employment counsellor. I worked for the government for years, but after the recession the government closed all those programs.

“After that I spent nine years (learning about) meditation, doing it every day,” Lachapelle continued. “What I wanted to do was capture those experiences through my work. I journaled, I wrote short stories … and after I had quite a collection of writing and notes, I decided to just spread them all out, put them together like puzzle pieces and create stories like that.”
Lachapelle said she explored a variety of ideas and themes in her new poetry books, which are available for purchase on Amazon.

“My book on love deals with family love, unrequited love, romantic love, all of that … because love is very much a gift for the human experience,” she said. “(Of Light and Sounds) contains 50 poems, some of them are spiritual and some are not.
“And for This is The Story of Kryptonite Rose, I wanted to put a story in ballad form, so it’s an actual 25-page poem that tells a story.

While the subject matter may be different, the poems in all three books will go a long ways in putting people’s minds at ease, Lachapelle added, helping them uncover beauty.

“(Readers) will find beautiful words that tell a story, they’ll read something that’s going to impact them on an emotional level or lead them to feel a bit passionate,” she said. “Poetry has a beautiful impact on the mind and if people can take a few minutes each day to enjoy some beauty in their life, it’s so important, especially in the world we live in today where there is so much stress, so much drama and a lot of it is so unneeded.
“Arts and spirituality go hand in hand, so if people have time to reflect on something meaningful, that will give them some relief, take their mind off things.”
