Three competition days – three competition records.
Sarah Sjöström shows off great shape ahead of the Olympics.
– Jag has received a good receipt before the Olympics, she says.
Sarah Sjöström has been in Rome for three competition days, and it was there that she would get a clear message about where the form is before the Olympics, which are now only a month away. And the weekend can be summed up in just one way: A huge success.
Huge success
Sarah Sjöström started the competition weekend with a win in the 50 meter butterfly last Friday, and she was only three tenths away from breaking her own world record. However, there was a new competition record in the major competition Sette Colli, which was held for the 60th time.
Sjöström followed up Friday’s success by winning the 100 meter free in 52.57, which is only a second slower than the world record, which she also holds. The time was also enough, again, for a new competition record – and on Sunday it was time again.
“Got a good receipt”
Sarah Sjöström then won the 50 meter freestyle in 23.75, which was only 14 hundredths off her own world record.
– It feels very good and I have received a good receipt before the Olympics, which is very nice, says Sjöström to the Swedish Swimming Federation.
In total, there were three competition days, three wins, and three competition records for Sjöström during the prestigious weekend in Rome, and a better announcement before the Olympics could not be wished for.
– There are five, six weeks left and we just have to try to stay on this wave, says Sjöström.
