Aiming at the future

After the Olympics in Paris 2024, where Sara Sjöström won two gold medals, she has kept a low profile in the competition context. Now it is clear that next year will be a completely competition-free year for the 31-year-old.

– Right now I have no competitions planned. I will continue to train, but at a low intensity, and then slowly increase. I think it’s the best way to last in the long run, she says.

When the Olympics in Los Angeles are decided in 2028, Sjöström will be 35 years old. She sees the break as necessary for the body to cope with the long-term investment.

– During both the autumn of 2022 and 2023, I had very few competitions, and the body responded incredibly well to that. I felt fresher and stronger once the hard training started again, she tells Dagens Nyheter.
