Sarah Sjöström’s absolutely wonderful message of joy – after the sudden break-up: “It feels like…”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Sarah Sjöström has been on a much-needed break during the autumn.
But now the desire has returned and she has returned to the pool again.
– It has been great and nice, above all mentally, she tells TT.

It was a huge success for Sarah Sjostrom during the WC in Budapest in June 2022. The Swede won two individual WC gold and one WC silver, just six weeks later it was time again for new success during the EC in Rome.

Sjöström’s success

Sjöström salvaged three European Championship golds, one European Championship silver and one European Championship bronze. The 29-year-old also made Swedish sporting history during both championships by becoming the winner of the most individual WC medals on the women’s side ever and the most EC medals for both women and men of all time.

But the great success was also extremely stressful for the swimming queen Sjöström.
– The successes mean a lot. I was pretty tired throughout 2022 after an intense post-Olympic year trying to quickly recover from injury. I continued to keep going all autumn without rest after the Olympics with both the EC and WC in short track, she says in an interview with TT.

Sarah took a break

Therefore, the Swedish superstar chose to take a much-needed break during the autumn and thus abstained from the short track WC. She still continued to train, but in a completely different way to calm her body down.
– Instead of 35,000-meter weeks, I have run 20,000-25,000 meters and then I have trained three strength sessions a week. It feels like I practiced a bit with the handbrake on. It’s been great and nice, especially mentally. For example, I have been able to take sleepovers if I wanted to, the Swede explains to the news agency.
– Now I’ve felt like getting started and training and putting in all the work again.

The new big goal has already been set and it is the Summer Olympics in Paris in 2024. Before then, there are four major championships on the schedule in the form of double WC and double EC.
– There are more competitions than ever. I’ll see how I post it, I’ll take six months at a time. I know my plan until Fukuoka (WC this year) and then we’ll see. I usually take it a little more calmly in the fall before the Olympics competitively and have invested in training, she says in the interview.

Sarah Sjöström’s plan is to make her long-awaited competitive comeback on March 11-12 in Marseille. This year’s WC in Fukuoka, Japan, will be decided from July 23-30.
