That’s why she chose to swim 100 meters free – at the last minute • “Didn’t expect gold”
Despite the pressure, Sarah Sjöström managed to win two golds during the Olympics in Paris.
Now she reveals why she chose to swim 100 meters free – a distance she had not planned to swim at all.
– I am incredibly proud that I dared, says the swimmer in Nyhetsmorgon.
With her two golds in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle, Sarah Sjöström is one of our greatest athletes of all time.
– These medals mean a lot precisely because there were two golds at my fifth Olympics. I never expected to do that. It feels really cool.
– I think it’s great fun that things have gone so well in recent years. It’s funny that after 15 years I was able to stand at the top of the podium even in the 100 meter freestyle.
Therefore, she swam 100 meters freestyle
Her shock was evident when she managed to take the first gold in the 100m freestyle.
– The gold medal was not something I had expected.
Sarah Sjöström had put down the bet on the 100 meters, she was worried that it would disturb her focus for the 50 meters freestyle, a distance where everyone expects her to win gold.
But it was her trainer Antonio Lutula who made her change her mind at the last minute and drive.
– My coach thought I could win this and that made me dare to drive. I didn’t think it was a good idea, but he insisted and I’m glad about that.
She does that next
Already on Monday, August 12, she will try to break a new world record at the national arena Eriksdalsbadet when she organizes a swimming competition for young people.
– It’s time to take care while I’m in Olympic shape. It’s fun to put on a show at home in Stockholm, says Sarah Sjöström.
As long as her body holds up and life as an elite athlete is fun, she plans to continue swimming.
– I enjoy the everyday life I have as an athlete, it’s not the medals that are the goal, but the life around it. It is important that the job is fun in order to perform.
