Sara one of 90,000 new citizens: “Finally! Mother has become Swedish!”

It was tougher to become Swedish and feel like part of Sweden than Sara Al Arab had imagined.

– The language. To get a job. And friends. It was difficult, she says.

She came to Sweden in 2015 and applied for citizenship in 2019 when she met the requirements. Then there was a long wait before she was granted in 2022. This week she joined and celebrated her citizenship at a ceremony.

And the new home country has made an impression.

– The last time I visited my mother in Lebanon, I noticed how Swedish I have become. I want to go out for walks. And I can’t do without coffee, she says, laughing.

In the clip, you hear Sara tell about how she ended up in Sweden and how the road to becoming Swedish was.
