The athletics GP series continues on Saturday in Kuortane. Broadcast live on Areena at 15:45 and on TV1 at 18:15.

Among other things, Kuortanene’s season will continue in the GP races Sara Lappalainen, which is placed on the starting line at 800 meters. On Tuesday of Midsummer’s week, Lappalainen stopped the clock in Paavo Nurme’s games on the same route with a time of 2:00.83, which was enough to finish sixth in the competition. He had a tooth cavity from the run.

– It was the same kind of beating, and I got a little bit of goosebumps there, Lappalainen told Urheilu on Midsummer’s Eve.

With Kuortane, the goal is to run an intact and balanced race and the best time of the season.

– The main thing is that you don’t use any power to crash so that you go on the third track. It’s just not a good thing in the race, the runner said with a laugh.

From the beginning of the season, the media and experts have speculated whether the excellent runner from the beginning of the season will break Eveliina Määttänen 800 meter Finnish record. The current record, 1.59.41, is held by Sara Lappalainen.

At the beginning of June, Määttänen ran the season’s top domestic time of 1:59.59 in the Stockholm Diamond League, which is only 0.18 seconds slower than Lappalainen’s record run three years ago.

Lappalainen also has his say on record speculation.

– Yes, the holder of the Finnish record has been forgotten in this race, Lappalainen says with a smile and believes that he can be the next one to break his current Finnish record.

The runner feels that he is already very close to his record condition at this point in the season, which means he can break under two minutes next time already on Saturday in Kuortane.

According to Lappalainen, his progress will improve as he gets to compete.

– I have such a good basic aerobic condition, and since I was a junior, I’ve been training to compete a lot and in training I really do a lot of competition pace.
