Säpo has arrested a wanted 41-year-old man in Stockholm suspected of terrorist offences.
The raid took place on behalf of “a foreign authority”.
– The person has been requested to be extradited from Sweden, says Fredrik Hultgren-Friberg at Säpo.
The man was arrested in his presence on Thursday afternoon. The security police, Säpo, carried out the raid last Friday and arrested the wanted 41-year-old.
Säpo confirms that there was a terrorist attack.
– It is true that a person was arrested in Stockholm last Friday. The person is suspected of a terrorist crime in another country, says Fredrik Hultgren-Friberg, press secretary at the Security Police.
Suspected of terror in Europe
Chamber prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist leads the case from the Swedish side and is very secretive.
– It is about a suspected terrorist crime in a European country and the basis for my arrest is that a European arrest warrant has been issued. The crime was committed in another country, he says.
– I am prevented from going into the actual content of this application and the more detailed circumstances surrounding the suspected terrorist crime. Special confidentiality has been requested for it, including confidentiality for whichever country made this request. But the person is not suspected of crime in Sweden.
“We know what he did in Sweden”
Does the man have any connections to Sweden?
– No, basically I wouldn’t say that he has.
What did he do in Sweden?
– We know what he did in Sweden, but I can’t go into it.
The man is Russian-speaking and has previously been wanted by Russia. The prosecutor does not want to comment on his citizenships.
The 41-year-old has been requested to be detained at Attunda district court and a process for extradition of the man, to the country on whose behalf Säpo acted, has been initiated. The negotiations will be held this afternoon.
TV4 Nyheternas has contacted the man’s lawyer for a comment.
