Sao Miguel

Sao Miguel

The main island of the Azores, São Miguel is also the gateway to the archipelago with its international airport. Discovery at 15e century during the great Portuguese explorations, the island measures only 65 km long and 8 to 15 km wide. However, its landscapes are astonishingly diverse, between volcanic reliefs, thermal springs, black sand beaches and pineapple, banana and tea plantations! From São Miguel, you can fly to the other islands of the archipelago with the local airline SATA or take the ferry with the shipping company Atlanticoline.
