(Finance) – San Lorenzo presented today at its headquarters in La Spezia the LIFE MYSTIC project (Methanol for Yachting Sustainable energy Transition applied to Internal Combustion engines), created in collaboration with Nanni Industries and Ranieri Tonissifor the realization of first bi-fuel superyacht a green methanol which will see the light by 2027.
Coordinated by Sanlorenzo, the project took off officially starting on June 1stwill have a duration of 54 months and provides a investment total of more than 4.8 million euros, of which 60% will be covered by European funds obtained under the “Circular Economy and Quality of Life” funding line of the LIFE programme.
The aim of the LIFE MYSTIC project is to test engines and generators for superyachts powered by a combination of diesel and methanol e important results are expected in terms of reduction of environmental impact: reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (150 t/y CO2eq), reduction in the consumption of fossil primary energy (700 MWh/y) and reduction in air quality contamination (630 kg/y).
Under the leadership of Sanlorenzo, LIFE MYSTIC plans to host on board of a superyacht two MAN diesel engines high-speed 4-stroke – in collaboration with Ranieri Tonissi as partner developers – e two diesel generators four-stroke – made by Nanni Industries – adapted to operate in bi-fuel green methanol – diesel. The creation of bi-fuel adaptation kits involves a very careful engineering process to ensure efficiency and reliability in the combustion of two different types of fuels in a single engine. The adaptation of the design of the vessel will be the responsibility of Sanlorenzo.
