Samsung’s new high-end PC is already on sale

Samsungs new high end PC is already on sale

With its latest generation Intel Core Ultra V processor, Samsung’s all-new Galaxy Book5 Pro 360 is set to redefine the standards of high-end laptops. And it’s getting a promotion for its launch.

At the beginning of September, at the IFA trade show, Intel presented a new range of processors, the Core Ultra V (see our article). Known under the code name Lunar Lake, this family of chips inaugurates a new hardware architecture supposed to both erase the defects of the previous one, Meteor Lake, which was quite disappointing in fact, and surpass Qualcomm’s ARM models, both in computing performance and energy savings. To do this, the American giant has completely revised its copy by adopting fairly radical innovative solutions and abandoning old technologies.

Galaxy Book5 Pro 360: a PC with a new generation Intel processor

So out goes Hyperthreading, used since the Pentiums, and in comes a real NPU (Neural Processing Unit), this processing unit specialized in calculations for AI, the industry’s big hobby since the advent of ChatGPT and other generative models. Better still: like Apple’s famous M chips, the Core Ultra V integrates RAM, for even faster data exchanges, which incidentally prohibits any subsequent increase in RAM, as on all Macs now. Above all, these new generation chips aim for maximum efficiency and minimum power consumption, so as to finally offer very long battery life, with Intel promising usage of around and even exceeding 20 hours. Unheard of in the PC world! And enough to design thin and light laptops, both powerful and durable, capable of really competing with Apple’s famous MacBooks.

And the least we can say is that Intel is playing big with these processors. Because despite its dominant position on the market and considerable investments in recent years, the American giant is in very bad shape at the moment, facing fierce competition from AMD, Apple, Nvidia and now Qualcomm. To the point of having announced layoffs and major strategic changes a few days ago. And even deciding to abandon its foundry activity, the division that has always manufactured its chips!

Galaxy Book5 Pro 360: a premium laptop with 360° Oled screen

In any case, and despite the gathering clouds, all the major PC manufacturers continue to source from Intel. And most have already integrated the new Core Ultra V chips into their new laptop models. This is particularly the case for Samsung, which has just unveiled its Galaxy Book5 Pro 360, a very high-end PC, not to say luxurious, which seems to tick all the boxes to face the future with confidence. And the least we can say is that the manufacturer has spared no expense for its new premium laptop.

Made from a superb metal alloy, the Galaxy Book5 Pro 360 weighs only 1.69 kg for only 12.8 mm thick, which is already remarkable for a 16-inch model. Oled type, with infinite contrast, beautiful colors and absolute black, its large screen offers a very comfortable definition of 2,880 x 1,800 pixels with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, while benefiting from a very pleasant anti-reflective treatment. Above all, and as its name suggests, this touch screen can rotate 360 degrees to switch the computer to tablet mode, which is very practical in many circumstances, especially since a stylus is provided as standard.

Still on the comfort front, the Galaxy Book5 Pro 360 has a full keyboard, with a real numeric keypad, which is not the case with all its competitors in the same format. And nothing is missing in terms of connectivity with connectivity with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, two Thunderbolt 4 ports in USB-C, a USB-A port in USB 3.2 and an HDMI 2.1 output capable of handling 8K at 60 Hz. Finally, with its generous 76 Wh battery, it promises up to 25 hours of video playback according to Samsung, which suggests exceptional battery life in typical use.

A feat that we also owe to its very economical processor, in this case an Intel Core Ultra 7 256V, integrating an Intel Arc 140V graphics circuit and 16 MB of RAM. In short, this is clearly a new generation computer, both versatile and efficient.
