The Korean manufacturer is bringing Samsung Wallet back from the dead to integrate your payment and loyalty cards, your digital keys and your cryptocurrencies.

After having it replaced by Samsung Pay a few years ago, Samsung has just released a new version of its Wallet application. More complete, the Korean manufacturer’s digital wallet will centralize several services, including Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass, within a universal application, all secured using your biometric data.

The Samsung Wallet therefore replaces Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass and brings together all your payment cards, loyalty cards, passwords, digital keys and boarding passes. The Korean giant’s digital wallet will even allow you to manage your cryptoassets since the application also includes the Samsung Blockchain Wallet.

Unfortunately, as often with Samsung, not everyone will be able to benefit from it. The Wallet, which will be available in the United States, the United Kingdom and in certain European countries, will thus only be available on Galaxy smartphones running at least with Android 9.

Also, the Digital Key Manager currently only works with certain car models from a handful of car manufacturers. This is particularly the case for the Genesis GV60, the Genesis GV90, the Hyundai Palisade as well as certain BMW models launched after July 2020. The same applies to the support for boarding passes since at Samsung Wallet is currently limited to Korean Air flights.

Finally, some of the Wallet’s functionalities, in particular certain dematerialized car keys, can only work on terminals equipped with Ultra Wide Band connectivity and equipped with an eSE (embedded Secure Element) physical security module.
