One UI 5.0 beta is officially available in select countries on Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra
The first official beta of One UI 5.0 (based on Android 13) is finally available. Samsung, which had already begun to deploy the Preview of the next operating system for its smartphones, has just made it official.
For now, the Korean manufacturer reserves the beta of its OS only for users residing in the United States, Germany and Korea. In addition, this new version of One UI is currently only available on a limited number of devices. Samsung has only deployed it on the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra. However, the manufacturer has indicated that the beta of the operating system will arrive very soon in other countries, in Europe in particular, and that other, older smartphones will soon be supported.
An evolution, not a revolution
The arrival of One UI 5.0 on Samsung terminals should not really upset user habits. The new version of the OS, which is only a meager evolution of One UI 4.0, focuses mainly on aesthetic improvements to the interface and some system optimizations. One UI 5.0 thus inaugurates new themes and introduces a new color palette for interface elements such as icons and other navigation menus.
Samsung has also revised its notification system and changed the configuration settings to make them simpler. The Korean manufacturer has also offered a facelift to the dialog boxes of permissions granted to applications. They now have an appearance much closer to what exists on Android in “stock” version.
Also, the builder changed the way of arranging widgets. It is now possible to stack widgets of the same size so that they take up less space on your device screen. Once several widgets are stacked in this way, simply scroll them to the right or left to access them.
One UI 5.0 also introduces several new features that should improve the daily lives of users. The OS, for example, allows users to configure a different language on each of the applications installed on their smartphone. New navigation gestures, accessible in the Labs section of the Settings, now allow you to activate a multi-window feature, or minimize the active application in a floating window.
Finally, One UI 5.0 introduces in the Image Gallery, an optical character recognition module similar to what exists on iOS 16. Thanks to it, you can easily extract text displayed on an image to paste it and use it in another app.
