Samsung‘Fame Galaxy S22 series has sparked controversy after reports of phones throttling performance in thousands of apps and games. The company’s Game Optimization Service (GOS) measures things like temperature and battery level and adjusts system performance to find some kind of balance. After all the negative backlash, Samsung promised to release an update to give users more control over their GOS interventions, and now we’re starting to see that coming.
Galaxy S22 The new update for the series removes CPU and GPU performance limits while gaming. It also offers a new Game Performance Management Mode in Game Booster (via SamMobile), but it’s not clear what exactly that will offer. In addition to this fix, Samsung also tells us to look for the usual variety of bug fixes and improvements.
Geekbenchusing a modified version of Galaxy S22+ In our testing with the GOS-enabled firmware on the onboard, we saw a 45% drop in single-core scores and a 28% drop in multi-core performance. It will be interesting to see if this update impacts the phone’s gaming performance and if it causes overheating issues.
The update was first released in Samsung’s home country of South Korea, but it now appears to be rolling out internationally as it has arrived on my unlocked S22 Ultra in the UK.
