Samsung Galaxy S22: see you on February 9!

Samsung Galaxy S22 see you on February 9

SAMSUNG GALAXY S22. Samsung has just confirmed that its next conference will be held on February 9. The latter should unveil the new Samsung Galaxy S22.

[Mis à jour le 26 janvier 2021 à 10h37] Expected for several months, the new range of Samsung Galaxy S22 should be announced within a few days. The manufacturer has just made an appointment with its community for a major conference on February 9, at 4 p.m. (Paris time). Although a lot of information has already leaked about the Samsung Galaxy S22, this conference should confirm many hypotheses, such as the price of these new devices, as well as their release date.

If Samsung decides to reiterate its strategy adopted last year with the S21, the firm should offer three versions for its new Galaxy S22. These would have different sizes and characteristics in order to satisfy a wide range of users as is often the case with this type of launch. The three models offered would therefore be the Samsung Galaxy S22, the S22+ and the S22 Ultra.

Regarding the S22 and S22+, the design of the phone would be quite similar to its predecessors. The S22 Ultra would be equipped witha curved screen, and above all a case dedicated to storing the S-Pen pen, which was notably missing from the brand’s latest foldable phone, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.

Last year, the previous S21s were released at the end of January. Samsung has therefore taken a bit of a delay, since its next conference, the “Galaxy Unpacked” is scheduled for Wednesday, February 9 at 4 p.m. (Paris time). The latter should reveal all the information concerning the new Samsung Galaxy S22.

If the new Samsung Galaxy S22 and its different versions will be presented during the conference, these should not be made directly available. Pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S22 should open in the following days, for a global release estimated at the end of February.

Again, hard to say in advance. However, it is still possible to resume the prices charged in past years, in particular those for the release of the Galaxy S21. If the Korean firm again offers three different models, the new Samsung Galaxy S22 should be positioned as follows:

  • Samsung Galaxy S22: from 859 euro
  • Samsung Galaxy S22+: from 1059 euro
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: from 1259 euros

These new smartphones would therefore always be positioned at high-end prices. Unlike Apple, Samsung does not yet seem inclined to offer a more “low cost” version of its flagship product. However, it will be necessary to wait for an official announcement and a dedicated conference to be fixed on the final prices of the Samsung Galaxy S22.

Although this information remains to be taken with a grain of salt, the Samsung Galaxy S22 has been the victim of numerous leaks for several weeks. Whether it’s its processor, its photo sensors or just its design, several photographs and hallway noises continue to reveal the future smartphone from Samsung.

A Snapdragon or Exynos processor

Samsung is one of those manufacturers capable of offering their own in-house processors. The S21 was notably equipped with the Exynos 2100 chip with excellent performance that can compete with Snapdragon processors. However, we will have to wait for an official announcement to find out if Samsung intends to equip its next flagship with its own chip (which would then be the Exynos 2200) or start again on a Snapdragon SoC (the 8 gen1 in this case, since the firm has abandoned its old denominations). According to the tron leaker, specializing in leaks of the genre, Europe would only have Samsung’s in-house processor, namely the Exynos 2200 which would equip the future Galaxy S22.

A design very close to the Galaxy S21

According to the first leaks of the designs of the Samsung Galaxy S22, the latter would look like its predecessor! The first shots already available on the web reveal a photo block placed on the side and always a front sensor placed in the center of the screen and not directly placed under the screen as is already the case on the foldable phone of the brand, the Z Fold 3.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra differs a little more from its classic counterpart by offering an original P-shaped photo block. The latter also has two additional photo modules that could be reserved for the telephoto lens. Its edges also differ from the other two models since they are less rounded in order to leave more room for the screen. The latter would be in particular fully compatible with the use of the S-Pen stylus from Samsung which would even be directly available with the smartphone as evidenced by the first shots on the net.

A high definition screen with 120 Hz

Regarding the screen of the Galaxy S22, the latter would be divided into two distinct categories: on the one hand the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ would have a Full HD+ panel while the S22 Ultra will be equipped with a QHD+ panel. The three screens will however be equipped with screens capable of displaying a refresh rate of 120 Hz. To see if the latter will be adaptive and if the repercussions on the battery are not too much felt on a daily basis. Regarding the sizes relating to the screens, these evolve according to the desired model:

  • Samsung Galaxy S22: 6.06″ screen.
  • Samsung Galaxy S22+: 6.55 screen“.
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: 6.81″ screen.

A camera with 50 MP

The current generation of Samsung Galaxy S21 and S21+ has three photo sensors of 12, 12 and 64 MP respectively. Only the S21 Ultra stood out with four dedicated sensors (12, 108, 10 and 10) for wide angle, ultra wide angle and telephoto. The Samsung Galaxy S22 would offer new sensors with a main switch to 50 Mpx presented in 2021. The smartphone would thus follow the following model:

  • Samsung Galaxy S22: 50MP main sensor / 10MP ultra-wide angle / 2MP telephoto lens.
  • Samsung Galaxy S22+: 50MP main sensor / 10MP ultra-wide angle / 2MP telephoto lens.
  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: 108 Mpx main sensor / 12 Mpx ultra wide angle / 10 and 10 Mpx telephoto lenses.

Although it did not live up to Apple’s expectations, the iPhone 12 mini had the merit of offering a high-end phone at a more accessible price than its counterparts. It was also a smartphone with reduced dimensions and which could thus suit a panel of users who prefer to equip themselves with devices that are easy to handle.

Samsung will he risk such an initiative? It’s a safe bet not. As we mentioned earlier, the mini version of the iPhone was very disappointing in terms of sales, which is not very encouraging for other manufacturers. In addition, there are currently no leaks or rumors about a more affordable version of the Samsung Galaxy S22. We are never safe from surprises, but it is better not to get too carried away.

Although this is an ideal option for those who tend to store a lot of files, micro SD card slots are not always available on a smartphone. Although no information is yet available on this subject for the S22, it should be remembered that Samsung had ignored the micro SD ports last year with its Galaxy S21. It may therefore well be that the firm applies the same strategy, and that the storage spaces offered are fixed for the S22.
