Samsung Becomes OLED Screen Supplier for New iPad Pro

According to The Elec, Samsung has strengthened its position as the sole supplier of the first quantity of OLED displays for the 11-inch model, or the first batch to be mass-produced for the launch of the next-generation ‌iPad Pro‌. LG was originally planned to start producing the 11-inch OLED panel as well, but as it stands, the two panel companies currently only produce one type of OLED display. Initial production at both suppliers started last month.

Industry insiders suggest the division of labor is due to changes in the demand outlook for Apple’s OLED iPad Pro models, as well as unstable production capacity and output from the two suppliers. Apple is said to be aiming for a design that reduces the thickness and weight of the iPad screen, as well as providing unrivaled image quality.

According to the report published in Korean, the situation may change after the first quantity is produced, depending on fluctuations in production yield and possible adjustments to the demand forecast for Apple’s new ‌OLED ‌iPad‌ Pro‌ models. Apple’s shipment forecast for this year is reportedly down to 8 million units, down from the 10 million units projected for 2024 last year.
