After two timid attempts, one under the name of Gear VR, the other more ambitious named Odyssey +, Samsung finally seems determined to tackle the subject of VR head-on. According to our colleagues from Let’s Go Digital, the Korean manufacturer has filed several patents on this subject, including one very recently. The latter, registered on March 30 with the World Intellectual Property Office, includes several references to an AR / VR headset project as well as the mention “Galaxy 360”, the possible name of the product.
Will the third attempt be the right one?
This patent takes up part of the information from another patent registered in Austria, in 2018, a few weeks after the marketing of Osyssey + and which already evoked serious lines of thought for the continuation of virtual reality at Samsung.
This information should be put into perspective with the statements of Han Jong-Hee, CEO of Samsung, who confirmed that the brand was working on its Galaxy VR. More generally, it is not surprising to see Samsung getting down to the task insofar as the subject of virtual reality is gaining momentum under the leadership of Meta and its metaverse. In addition, there is little doubt that Apple is also preparing its solution, potentially for 2023.
