Sami Valimaki started the Irish Open nicely shares second place

Golfer Sami Välimäki is second after the opening round of the Irish leg of the European Tour.

Sami Välimäki is tied for second place in the European Golf Tour event in Ireland. The race is led by England Todd Clements with a score of five under par.

Välimäki played four under par on the opening day of the Irish Open and shares second place with the Spaniard Alejandro Del Rey with. There are five players at three under par, including superstar Rory McIlroy.

Välimäki made six birdies in the round, four of which came during the last nine fairways. The Finn, who started his round from behind, played the first nine fairways with two birdies and two bogeys.

Välimäki, who played on the European tour after the Olympics will return later in the fall back to the US and the PGA Tour.

Mikko Korhonen opened the competition with a score of three over par.
