Sami Valimaki narrowly secured his place on next years PGA

Sami Välimäki, 26, was the first Finn to hit a hole-in-one on the PGA Tour.

Sami Välimäki succeeded in his trick in the opening round of the tournament, on the 12th hole, a par3 fairway.

The tournament is played on the Nicklaus Tournament Course in La Quinta, California.

At the time of writing this, Välimäki has played 16 fairways in the first round, five under par. He shares 25th place, but the round is still largely unfinished.

Among those who have already played a full round, the USA is at the top Justin Lower (–9).
