The title of the exhibition, Datni, means tin in Northern Sami, and tin thread embroidery in particular is a craft that is unique to the Sami.
– The Sami have used this technology for more than 1,000 years, says Matti Aikio, who visited the museum in Härnösand on three different occasions during the winter to work on the exhibition.
It is primarily textiles with tin wire embroidery that were used to decorate the seldon from the reindeer husbandry that were filmed in the video work.
The evocative soundscape that meets the visitor is created by the composer and vocalist Katarina Barruk. Her video work “Dohkkáhehkke” can also be viewed at the museum. The exhibition runs until April 16, 2023.
