Sami food is served here in Rome: “They give praise”

The Global-hub on Indigenous People’s food system meets during the week at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in the Italian capital, Rome.

In connection with that, they have also set up a large lavvo in the middle of Rome where, among other things, Sami food is offered.

– We have both meat stew and fish stew for lunch, in the evening we have smoked meat, it’s typical food that we eat every day, but here they’ve never even heard of it or tasted it, says Ayla Gáren Nutti, who is there and work for the organization.

The purpose of the visit, where researchers and indigenous people from all over the world have come, is to search for new ways to knowledge and to make use of indigenous people’s knowledge to make food systems sustainable.

– The interest is very big, there are things that happen all the time and people from all over the world come here, says Gáren Nutti.

What do people think of Sami food?

– They seem to like the food, there are many who come forward and thank them for the food and give praise, says Nutti.
