Tre Kronor’s World Cup squad 2023 was a squad that lacked big stars. Then there was a lot of media focus on William Nylander when Toronto left the Stanley Cup playoffs. But that star wouldn’t make it to the WC either.
– In terms of mass media, you need something to do during a championship. It’s far. Then it will be NHL players that are discussed. And William Nylander is at a level so it goes without saying that it should be discussed whether he comes or not. We went back and forth but it ended up not being possible to resolve, says Sam Hallam to SVT Sport.
In order to get a better contact with the players who play in the NHL on a daily basis, to be able to attract more people to the World Cup, the association has started to rethink.
– We had a gathering in August where we invited some of them to have some information and have some fun together. And there we see that it is something we have to do more often and repeatedly, even in years when there is not a World Cup or Olympics. That’s a lot. Then I think we have to be straightforward, clear and honest about how important Tre Kronor is for Swedish ice hockey. And for our talent development programs at the national team level, Tre Kronor is the brand that brings in money that we can channel into the system.
