Despite the criticism, despite the bad feedback from players, despite the palpable disappointment, Sonic Frontiers is a commercial success. It’s SEGA who announces it in a tweet to reveal that 2.5 million copies were sold in the space of a short month of operation. Quite unexpected figures and which even turn out to be a record for the franchise which had not experienced such a launch for several years. Released on November 8, 2022 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, Sonic Frontiers is the first episode to launch into the deep end of the open world. A game design choice that marks SEGA’s desire to perpetuate this approach, as the Japanese publisher was able to explain, although it accepts the criticisms made of the game. It is obvious that with this success, SEGA will try to improve the formula for the next episodes. In the meantime, we imagine that post-launch content is planned and of course, we will keep you informed.
