In the past few days, a tasting panel performed several analyzes on Axfood’s organic Italian extra virgin olive oil from Garant in a laboratory.

The board prohibits the sale of the olive oil
It turned out that the olive oil from Garant did not meet the classification requirements required to be called “virgin olive oil”, writes the Environmental and Health Protection Board in a report which News24 took part in.
Axfood is now prohibited from continuing the sale of the olive oil from the audited batch. The bottles that have already been distributed must be recalled from the wholesalers as they may no longer be sold either.

One of the justifications, as the environmental and health protection board writes in its report, for the olive oil to be banned from sale is that the “organoleptic properties do not confirm the category indicated for the olive oil”.
And that the wrong name can be misleading for the consumer. According to the analytical test in the panel, Garant’s olive oil should only be classified as virgin and not extra virgin, as it claims to be.
Axfood has opposed the decision and questioned the reliability of the tests – something that the Environmental and Health Protection Board, however, does not take notice of.
The decision can be appealed to the county administrative board.
