Spoiler: it’s not an office with table football or unlimited coffee. Young professionals know what they want and are not afraid to say it.
Young graduates have clear expectations: a good salary, captivating missions and, above all, a balance between professional and personal life. And they don’t seem ready to compromise!
A job, yes… but not just any job
Contrary to the image they are given, young people are not indecisive. According to a recent Universum survey, what they want is a good working atmosphere, varied missions and a comfortable salary. And this trend does not change once you graduate. Young professionals are looking for employers capable of offering them a pleasant environment, where motivation and support are there.
However, priorities are changing slightly. Once you enter the job market, the balance between professional and personal life becomes central. No more long hours at the office, young people also want to enjoy their free time. But whether you are still a student or already working, one thing does not change: respect for employees is crucial.
A salary that matches ambitions
Remuneration, in fact, is a hot topic. At the start of their career, young people ask for an average of 30,000 euros per year. That’s a little more than last year, but less than in 2022. And good news: the pay gap between men and women is narrowing. Women are now aiming for a salary of 30,179 euros, compared to 31,473 euros for men, a gap of only 4%, down compared to last year.
Gafam or industries? The choice is made
The digital giants are no longer as attractive as before. Google, Amazon, Facebook (Meta), Apple and Microsoft, once the dream companies, have lost their appeal. Today, young people prefer energy and aeronautics. Airbus tops the ranking of preferred companies, closely followed by EDF, TotalEnergies, and Air France. Now, it’s innovation that makes people dream, not necessarily a job in Silicon Valley.
