Sakari Mäkinen, 30, is recovering from a car accident.
Akaa-Volley, which plays in the Men’s Volleyball Championship League, announced its general players on January 7 Sakari Mäkinen having been in a serious car accident.
The club said at the time that Mäkinen has received appropriate treatment at Tampere University Hospital and his recovery from the accident looks good.
Now on Thursday, Mäkinen, 30, published an update on Instagram. In the first picture, he is lying on a hospital bed. In the second picture, a man on a pole shows the thumbs up, and in the third, he is enjoying a hamburger meal.
– It was a morning training trip lasting about a week, with a couple of variables, Mäkinen writes.
Mäkinen thanks his close circle and the staff at Tampere University Hospital, so that “the man has been physically and mentally put back together”.
– Thank you also to all the acquaintances and to the slightly stranger ones for the congratulatory messages. There were few joys on the hospital bed reading through them and seeing how much people care.
– Now one day at a time towards full recovery and one meal at a time towards the lost kilos.
Mäkinen has represented Finland once in the World Championships and twice in the European Championships. He returned to Finland from Holland last summer.
Before moving to the Netherlands, Mäkinen won three consecutive Finnish championships in the years 2021–2023 in VaLePa. Mäkinen has also played in Belgium and Belarus.
