Point Edward’s Waterfront Park attracted a crowd Saturday morning to watch sailboats made their way to Lake Huron for the start of the 98th annual race from Port Huron to Mackinac Island.
It was also the 40th year for the Rotary Club of Sarnia’s pancake breakfast, traditionally held in the park next to the Blue Water Bridge and the St. Clair River.
The pancake and sausage breakfast is held on the morning of the race and typically feeds 2,000 people while raising money for projects supported by the service club.
More than 180 boats were expected to take part in the Bayview Mackinac Race which is billed as the longest continually run freshwater long distance sailboat race.
