In total, the hospital purchased analyzes from labs for eight million. None of them were advertised under the Public Procurement Act. Now the region is required to pay a sanction fee of 620,000 from the Swedish Competition Authority.
– This is an unauthorized direct procurement and it normally has a high sanction value, says Frida Niklasson, process advisor at the Swedish Competition Authority.
The Swedish Competition Authority has reviewed the purchases made by the Västra Götaland region from Lund University in 2021. The total value of the purchases amounts to just under eight million kroner. All agreements were entered into without the region advertising in accordance with the Public Procurement Act (LOU). They therefore constitute an unauthorized direct procurement, according to a press release from the Swedish Competition Authority. No written agreements have been drawn up with the supplier. The purchases were also not documented according to the requirements of the LOU.
