Sagnia came to the EC with the third best result in the field this year. But the 28-year-old had no high hopes for an advanced placement when the long jump final was decided on Thursday evening.
The WC had taken most of the motivation, missing the podium by two centimetres, and she entered the Munich Olympic Stadium in the rain to soak up the atmosphere.
Perhaps there was a little too much focus on the atmosphere at the beginning – the first jump was indeed overstepped.
But Sagnia rallied and made her way into the contest more and more with each jump. The longest was the fifth, 6.61, and was enough for a sixth place.
