Khaddi Sagnia was hoping for a good start in the WC final in Eugene, where the first or second jump would give a good feeling for the rest.
She got none of it.
First was overstepping.
Others gave 6.69 meters.
— There was no one to brood over it, it was just to take it on, fight on until the competition was over, she says.
The length gave her the chance to jump three more jumps and compete for the medals.
In fifth, she reached 6.87 – six centimeters off her personal best – which tied for sixth place, and in the end she was just two centimeters from Brazil’s Leticia Oro Melo’s bronze medal.
— It was very close. Oh my God. I’m not happy with the placement but I’m happy with the result. I had hoped to make it to that last one, I don’t know how much overrunning there was on the last jump…
— If there is something I should be happy about, it is the result and that I beat some good ones.
For Khaddi Sagnia, the next thing to look forward to is the WC in Norrköping and then the EC in Munich in August.
In Germany, she is set on chasing a medal but also realizes how tough it will be.
— For me, the EC level has been about Olympic level. I’ve never rated it lower than that. All the best in the world are European. There will be a fight to the death there too, says Sagnia.
Germany’s Malaika Mihambo won in 7.12 ahead of Ese Brume, Nigeria, (7.02) and Leticia Oro Melo, Brazil (6.89).
