Seventh seed Saga Vanninen, 20, amassed a fine haul of points in 6,391 multi-match events in Austria. He missed the more than 30-year-old Finnish record by only 13 points.

Saga Vanninen set his seven-match record at a multi-match event in Götzis, Austria. The 20-year-old super talent scored 6,391 and became second in Finland’s all-time statistics. Vanninen’s previous record was 6,271 taken two years ago.

Vanninen’s result is a new Finnish record for under-23s. The Finnish record for the sport is A Swedish fairy tale 6,404 at the 1991 Tokyo World Championships.

Vanninen was fourth in a tough race. The victory was taken by the United States Anna Hall with the world’s top score of 6,988.

Vanninen started his match work perfectly on Saturday, coming within seven hundredths of his record with a time of 13.48.

He set his personal record in three different sports. In height, Vanninen exceeded 180, he ran 200 meters with a time of 24.35, and in length he stretched 643.

Especially in the long distance, Vanninen was in the thick of it, as he exceeded his old record of 634 in each of his three attempts. His second best result was 642.

In his bread event in the ball, Vanninen pushed 14.98 and recorded the event victory. Vanninen’s potential is indicated by the fact that he has pushed no less than 16.12 in the shot put at his best.

In Keihää, Vanninen was not in the best possible mood. His longest arc carried 42.53. For comparison, in his old record series, he immediately 47.01.

In the 800 meters, he ran a time of 2:17.91 and improved his previous record of 2:26.90 by almost nine seconds.

Huge success in the value competition for young people

Tampere Pyrinnö’s gold nugget was on a strong record streak already in the winter. He took Finland’s second-best all-time series 4,541 in 5 matches and was only 39 points behind Tiia Hautala from SE. He was seventh in the European Championships.

Vanninen is one of Finland’s most talented track and field athletes. The athlete, born in 2003, is a two-time youth world champion in the sport. He has also won the youth European Championship gold in the under-20 category.

Vanninen is one of the most interesting names at the under-23 European Athletics Championships to be held in Espoo in July.

The 7-game score limit for the World Championships in Budapest is 6,480.
