Safe stolen from Chatham business, later recovered

Police investigate Wallaceburg break in

Chatham-Kent police are investigating the theft of a safe from a Chatham business early Friday morning.

Police were called to the St. Clair Street business Friday regarding a break and enter complaint.

Investigation revealed entry was gained by smashing through a drive-thru window, police said. One inside, a safe was stolen, but later located near the business unopened, police added.

The investigation is ongoing and there are currently no suspects, police said.

Man, woman arrested on warrants

Chatham-Kent police caught up with a man and woman both wanted on warrants.

A 24-year-old man, known to be wanted on a surety relief warrant, was arrested after he was located at a McNaughton Avenue residence in Chatham Friday night.

Police also located a 52-year-old woman wanted on a warrant for theft and possession over $5,000 while responding to an assistance complaint at a residence on Colborne Street in Chatham Friday night.

Both accused were transported to police headquarters where they were held pending a bail hearing.
