It is time to review the amortization requirement and the mortgage ceiling, the government believes. Rising inflation and mortgage rates have made it tough for Swedish households. The Financial Supervisory Authority (FI) has thus been tasked by the government to evaluate the consequences of the amortization requirement and the mortgage ceiling for households when the Swedish economy has taken a turn and is heading towards a recession. Particular focus must be on how the amortization requirement and the mortgage ceiling affect households with lower incomes and with smaller financial margins, as well as how it affects different groups’ opportunities to enter the housing market. The assignment must be reported no later than October 14 this year. Hear savings economist Frida Bratt in the player above.
