During Tuesday, TV4’s team in Ukraine was subjected to a drone attack which is now being investigated as a war crime.
One of the police officers who accompanied the team on site saw the drone in time and became life-saving.
– It was intentional, you could say, says Andreij Homenko, police chief in Zaporizhzhya.
After Tuesday’s drone attack against TV4’s team Johan Fredriksson and Daniel Zdolsek in Zaporizhzhya, prosecutors in Ukraine are now investigating the incident as a war crime. Two police officers and TV4’s local employee, Alexander Pavlov, were slightly injured in the attack. Part of the investigation consists of testimonies, including from TV4’s photographer Daniel Zdolsek.
The police have no doubt that the attack must have been carried out by Russian military personnel. Now police who were at the scene of the attack say that they saw that the drone was deliberately directed at the team’s vehicle. When he realized this, it became life-changing for everyone there.
– It flew behind the trees, and it was a controlled drone of the Granat-PG type, equipped with a video camera. They saw everything: where it flew and how it flew. So it was intentional, you could say, says Andreij Homenko, police chief in Zaporizhzhya.
Unexpected attack
According to Andreij Homenko, the attack came unexpectedly. The area is said to be often shelled, but since the war started 19 months ago, he has never been injured on duty.
– Today it is better. Everything is good, says Andreij Homenko.
