Russian and Belarusian athletes are allowed to compete in the Olympics in Paris under a neutral flag, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) writes on its website.

Athletes from Russia and Belarus have been banned from international competitions in many sports since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last February. In recent months, there have been increasingly indications that individual athletes, but not teams, may be allowed to compete in Paris.

Already last spring, the IOC proposed that Russia and Belarus should be allowed to participate, but under certain conditions. For example, no teams are allowed.

All national Olympic committees had a digital meeting yesterday, Thursday, with the IOC when the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOC) stated that they think it is too early for Russian and Belarusian athletes to be welcomed back, the SOC informs TT.

The Olympics in Paris open on July 26.
