S politician Lars Isaksson has died

Lars Isaksson has died after a period of illness, the Social Democrats announce in a press release. Lars Isaksson was, among other things, chairman of the county council board between 1982-1991 and 1994-2006. Isaksson was also chairman of the Association of County Councils between 1997-2006.

– We regret that Lars Isaksson is no longer with us, and our thoughts are with his family and those closest to him. Lars Isaksson has meant a lot to developing both social democracy and health care in Jönköping County as well as the whole of Sweden, says Sebastian Hörlin, chairman of the Social Democrats in Jönköping County in the press release.

Born in Huskvarna

Lars Isaksson was born in Huskvarna and was involved in SSU at a young age. For a long time, Lars Isaksson held leading positions within the party both in the workers’ municipality and the party district, as well as the party’s executive committee at national level.

In his role as chairman of the Association of County Councils, he was involved in the amalgamation of the Association of Municipalities and County Councils into the current SKR. For just over 20 years, 1994-2015, he was also chairman of the University of Jönköping.

As recently as the end of March, Lars Isaksson was awarded the party’s main award, Tage Erlander’s Medal of Honor, for his merits. He lived to be 77 years old.
