It has not even been 15 months since Andrea Möllerberg took up her position as general secretary of the football association. Then she came from Stockholm FF where she had been head of office for four years previously. She then replaced Håkan Sjöstrand, who left the association.
Now Möllerberg’s future as general secretary of the union is uncertain. Information to the Football Channel states that an extra board meeting has been called for the confederation’s board and that it is about Möllerberg. There is uncertainty as to whether she can win back the trust of the staff and that she may have to be replaced.
It has been a stormy 15 months under Andrea Möllerberg’s leadership and many have been forced out or quit in various ways. And that Möllerberg appointed a number of new managers, many of whom are inexperienced. Something that was depicted in several media reviews during this time and also led to some districts finally demanding an independent investigation.
Been openly criticized
As recently as Friday, there was a staff meeting at the association’s office, and several sources state that it was the first time staff openly dared to criticize the current management. The meeting was tense and the criticism was very harsh. They called for leadership and questioned much of what had happened.
Chairman Fredrik Reinfeldt was also at the staff meeting, officially to talk about finances and the budget, but many on site felt that in his comments he distanced himself from the general secretary.
Information to the Football Channel claims that the question of Möllerberg’s future had already been raised before the staff meeting. There is a fear that she cannot win back the support of the staff and that the tough measures did not look good towards the movement at large and also partners.
Sensitive situation – Reinfeldt wants to be re-elected
The discussion about Möllerberg’s future comes in an extremely sensitive situation. Fredrik Reinfeldt is running for re-election as chairman in March despite the fact that he too has received criticism and he is being challenged by Sef chairman Simon Åström, who also sits on the association’s board.
As early as February 14, the election committee will announce which candidate to recommend: Reinfeldt or Åström. Now it may happen that Swedish football gets rid of its general secretary before then, even if an extra board meeting with that issue on the agenda does not mean a change.
Both Reinfeldt and Åström were on the board when Andrea Möllerberg was hired, but it was Reinfeldt who managed the selection together with then board members Bert Andersson and Annika Grälls. They then came up with Möllerberg as the recruitment committee’s choice for the board.
According to the football association’s report, Andrea Möllerberg has 195,000 a month in compensation plus 39,500 in pension provision and in her employment contract it is regulated that her notice period is one year if she is allowed to quit.
The football channel has sought representatives for SvFF’s board, Andrea Möllerberg and press manager Petra Thorén.
