Ryan Reynolds waived his salary for Deadpool – to avoid

In a few days we will see a reunion with super(anti-)hero Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds). Alongside Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), he will embark on a multidimensional Marvel adventure in Deadpool & Wolverine, on which the entire MCU may even depend.

For Reynolds, however, his first Deadpool film was already a tremendous adventure for which he was personally prepared to financial sacrifice bring to.

Ryan Reynolds paid his Deadpool writers to be on set with him

In a New York Times interview, the Deadpool actor explained how far he went to get the most out of his cheeky fourth-wall vandal on a creative level:

No part of me thought Deadpool would be a success when it was finally greenlit. I even gave up getting paid for the film to bring it back to the big screen: They didn’t let my co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick on the setso I took the money I had left and paid her to be on set with me. In effect, we were able to form a writers’ room.

However, Reynolds didn’t say anything completely new. As the Los Angeles Times writes, Reese and Wernick revealed his generosity in a podcast in 2016. The Deadpool star further described his priorities as follows:

I think one of the great enemies of creativity is too much time and money, and We had neither time nor money for the film. It really took the focus away from the spectacle and onto the characters, which is harder to do in a comic book movie. I was so invested in every micro-detail.When is Deadpool & Wolverine in theaters?

Anyone who wants to see Deadpool & Wolverine in the cinema just has to wait until July 24, 2024 If you want to do your homework beforehand, you can stream the first two Deadpool films on Disney+.
