THE IMPORTANCE OF ZAPORIJIA NUCLEAR POWER PLANT

Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, which was built in 1984-1995, is known as the largest nuclear power plant in Europe and the ninth largest in the world. The power plant, which has 6 reactors, each of which has a total capacity of 950 megawatts, can supply energy to approximately 4 million households with a total electricity production of 5700 megawatts. The power plant, which meets 20 percent of the total electricity production in Ukraine, has a 50 percent share in electricity generation from nuclear energy.

Located southeast of Ukraine’s capital, Kiev, and west of the pro-Russian separatist-controlled Donbas, the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant is located on the banks of the Dnipro River. (UAV/AA)
