The port of Mariupol has been a key player for Ukrainian industry and exports.

Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Marat Husnullin has visited the occupied Mariupol as the first high-ranking representative of the country’s administration since the start of the war of aggression.

Russia has taken control of the city, with the exception of the Azovstal steel plant area, which still has Ukrainian fighters in its infancy. According to Ukraine, the bombing of the plant has continued on Sunday.

Husnullin is responsible for construction and urban development in the Russian government. He told the news service Telegram that reconstruction in the area is about to begin.

Husnullin also visited the port of Mariupol, which has been central to Ukraine. The port is the deepest in the Azov Sea and has been important to the Ukrainian steel industry. Russia plans to open the port in May.
