A separatist movement in northern Mali claims to have killed over 80 fighters from the Russian militia group Wagner just under a week ago.

Another 50 or so government soldiers were killed in clashes in areas near the border with Algeria.

The battles are said to have taken place on July 25–27.

In addition, seriously wounded soldiers were transported to hospital in the town of Kidal in the northern part of Mali.

In the past, information and partial confirmations from Mali’s military and from the Wagner mercenary force have shown heavy losses for the government side.

The terrorist group JNIM, which is loosely linked to al-Qaeda, has also said that the government side suffered heavy losses in fighting in northern Mali earlier this week.

Separatist movements in northern Mali are often linked to the Tuareg’s demands for independence from Bamako.
