In Russian media, it is written that Rzhitsky is believed to have been mapped via the training application Strava, where he often published his runs publicly.
During the beginning of the Russian war of aggression, Rzhitsky was the commander of a submarine that carried out several attacks on Ukrainian cities. Including an attack in July last year, where at least 28 civilians were killed.
Russian authorities have announced that a 64-year-old man born in Ukraine has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
“Liquidated”
His address and personal details had also been uploaded to the Ukrainian website Myrotvorets, a large unofficial database of people considered enemies of Ukraine.
The word “liquidated” has now been added in large red letters above the man’s photograph.
According to CNN, the Russian news agency Tsargrad writes that the arrested man “planned the murder so carefully that the moment of the attack was not visible on any surveillance cameras” and that:
“The killer was waiting in the park near the sports complex “Olympus”, where Rzhitsky regularly did morning jogs”.
Russian authorities have also published a video which is said to depict the police operation carried out when the suspect was arrested.
The video shows the police breaking a window and storming an apartment, where a man wearing only underpants is seen lying on the floor.
The same man has also been filmed when he is said to confess to the murder, it is currently unclear if the man in the video clips is actually the Ukrainian citizen who has been singled out for the murder.
The intelligence chief approved the run
Ukraine has, as in previous cases, denied involvement in the murder. At the same time, the head of the Ukrainian intelligence service has admitted that they carried out several assassinations on Russian territory.
– We have already picked quite a large number of people, says Kyrylo Budanov, Major General.
According to Budanov, head of the Ukrainian intelligence service, it is both about assassinations that received media attention – and murders that took place in secret.
He did not specify which individuals it was about, but since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the majority of high animals connected to the Kremlin have been murdered or injured on Russian territory.
In addition, Russian media reported that the last time the submarine captain posted his run on Strava, the post was liked by several people connected to Ukraine’s military intelligence service. Including its head, Kyrylo Budanov.
– Direct scum will be punished in the end, regardless of which country they are in, he says in one interview published in May.
