Russian RBK: Nokia has asked permission from the United States and Finland to supply devices to Russia

Russian RBK Nokia has asked permission from the United States

According to RBK’s source, the purpose of network equipment company Nokia is to supply spare parts so that the network will work for another three years.

Nokia has applied for export licenses to deliver telecommunications equipment to Russia in order to fulfill previously concluded agreements, according to Russian media RBK (you switch to another service). RBK says that it has discussed the matter with two sources. The state-owned news agency Ria Novosti has also raised the issue, referring to RBK.

According to sources, Nokia has applied for export permits for its deliveries from the US Bureau of Industry and Security and the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is apparently about spare parts that are needed to maintain the network for another three years.

After the deliveries, Nokia is to leave the country and a separate company would provide technical support for the company’s products. The news does not say which company would continue to replace Nokia after this.

Nokia said in April that it was withdrawing from Russia due to Russia’s attack on Ukraine. At the same time, the company said that it intends to continue maintaining telecommunication networks in Russia, because it wants to help Russians gain access to data sources outside the country.

The company said at the end of last month that it had increased its turnover, but profitability weakened from a year ago.
