“Russian McDonalds” has a shortage of french fries

Russian McDonalds has a shortage of french fries

This spring, McDonald’s closed hundreds of its restaurants in Russia in the wake of President Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

A few months later, Alexander Govor, who runs 25 of the company’s restaurants in Siberia, signed an agreement with McDonalds to buy all the restaurants.

Russian media are now reporting that some of the restaurants will temporarily stop serving french fries, as there is a shortage of the right kind of potatoes, according to BBC.

The company “Vkusno in Tochka” claims that they primarily use Russian-produced potatoes, but that last year’s harvest was poor. In the wake of Western sanctions, it has also become impossible to import potatoes from abroad. The company expects french fries to be on the menu again this autumn.

But the Russian Ministry of Agriculture trying to tone down any concerns about potato shortages.

“The Russian market is fully supplied with potatoes, including processed ones. In addition, crops are already coming from the new harvest, which precludes a possible shortage “, says the ministry in a statement via Telegram.
