Russian intelligence officer takes over in Kherson

An official from the infamous Russian intelligence service FSB takes over control of the Russian-occupied Kherson region, the Kremlin states.

Sergei Yeliseyev becomes “head of government” in Kherson, the Russian occupation forces announce.

51-year-old Yeliseyev has been trained by the FSB and was until now deputy prime minister in the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad.

Alexei Kovalev, a former Ukrainian lawmaker who works with the Russians, becomes his closest man.

The city of Kherson, located near the Russian – occupied Crimean peninsula, was one of the first cities to fall under Russian occupation during the ongoing war of aggression in Ukraine.
