Russian forces flee from Bachmut

Ukraine says it is making new gains in the hard-fought town of Bachmut. A Russian brigade, which usually consists of several thousand people, is said to have fled its positions, reports say Reuters.

From Ukraine, there are reports of military successes in Bachmut, among other things, serious damage has been inflicted on a Russian brigade which, according to the Ukrainian military, fled its positions.

Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, who is the head of Ukraine’s ground forces, says according to the news agency that Russian troops have retreated about two kilometers in some parts of Bakhmut as a result of counterattacks.

The Wagner boss: “Our army is fleeing”

It is primarily the Wagner group that participated in the fighting in Bachmut in eastern Ukraine – but Ukrainian forces claim that their offensive has now stopped.

Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin, who in recent times has spoken increasingly critically about the Russian army, already claimed on Tuesday that the Russian brigade had abandoned its positions.

– Our army is fleeing. The 72nd Brigade moved out this morning, he said on Tuesday, according to Reuters.

“500 corpses”

Now Ukraine’s third largest brigade states in a statement that the Wagner chief’s claim is true and that they found “500 corpses of abandoned Russians”.

Reuters writes that Moscow has not commented on the information that the Russian brigade has abandoned the area, and that it has not been possible to confirm the information.
